Doin it for the ’Gram: A Numogram Workshop

Angewandte, Vienna; and online, Urbanomic Discord

‘…and I saw, inscribed into the impossible geometries of the dream cave’s wall beyond, an arrangement of ten circles, a number of smaller circles, and a series of interconnecting lines […] It was only later that I was able to uncover the numeric relations encrypted in its ancient patterns […] A labyrinth had opened up, a labyrinth whose complexities could be contained no more by our supernaturalisms than by our sciences…’

— Echidna Stillwell, ‘The Vault of Murmurs’

Rediscovered by Ccru in at the terminus of the last century, today the Numogram circulates as a memetic token locked on to the vaguely occultural murkmare of a world that has finally caught up with it, in an age of epistemic breakdown, digital contagion, weird theory, schizoposting, and network spirituality. It is also the object of intensive nummological research, and continues to be employed as an instrument for divination and magic(k)al practice. With contributions from multiple perspectives, this hybrid irl/online workshop aims to plot out the numogram in its differential relations with the Western esoteric tradition, occultism, philosophy, mathematics, cybertheory, and more…

At Weibel Institute for Digital Cultures, Angewandte, Vienna, and online on the Urbanomic Discord.

15.00 CET

Lendl Barcelos, Amy Ireland, Counting for Meat Puppets

The best way to understand the numogram is to make one for yourself. Amy Ireland and Lendl Barcelos guide you through the numerical methodology behind the numogram’s construction, explaining some of its lore, and situating the diagram within the context of Western occultism that it seeks to interrogate along the way.

Mer / Maggie Roberts, Avatar Tools for Engineering Demon Convergence: 0rphan Drift’s SYZYGY Twins

Maggie Roberts of 0rphan Drift will talk about the collaborative artist’s contributions to SYZYGY, from developing the main Twins with CCRU that map the Numogram, manifesting them in the installation space at Beaconsfield Arts to summoning their frequencies during audiovisual and performance nights. She will also present Meshed, a Digital Unlife Catacomic with visuals by 0D and text by CCRU and 0D that accompanied the show alongside CCRU’s Abstract Culture Swarm pamphlets launched during SYZYGY.

Lucía Morales (Colectiva Tzitzimiyotl), General Numogrammatics: Retrospective of an Absent Field

General Numogrammatics is the study-under-construction of the numerical structures and associated hyperstitional objects generated by the application of Numogram principles to any positional number system with a natural-numbered radix. Such a scope clashes with the tradition of Atlantean, Black Atlantean and (neo-)Lemurian cultures of exclusive focus on the decimal numogram, as described by Ccru at the turn of the current century. Around 2017, the hyperstitional initiative IMEX Research Reconstruction Program led the incipient virtual crowd Colectiva Tzitzimiyotl to unearthing a system of General Numogrammatics developed by the Mexican Institute of Experimental Education (IMEX) and suppressed by the anti-communist purges of the Mexican Dirty War. While formally developed in the 1960s, IMEX faculty claimed the system to have a convoluted lineage of human and non-human actors. This talk will give a general overview of Colectiva Tzitzimiyotl’s findings to date regarding the IMEX system of General Numogrammatics, with special attention to the motivations behind it, its hyperstitional history, its polytical milieu, its basic objects and operations, and examples of its artistic applications.

Maya B. Kronic, Immanence and Esotericism

The product of highly overdetermined heterogenetic circumstance, the ‘System of Lemurian Time Sorcery’, comprising the Numogram and the Pandemonium Matrix, spans an uncharted gulf between machinic immanence and cultural imaginary, between philosophical rigour and pragmatic cultural experimentation. Its evasion of the category of the ‘esoteric’, characterised by secrets, hidden meanings, and procedures of initiation, is the result of a careful construction whose methodological and epistemological principles we will try to expose, through a step-by-step exploration of the construction of the system, focusing on the thresholds at which the nature of the system changes, and with a particular focus on the post-Hjelmslevian quasiphonology of the Pandemonium entities’ names.
