I already knew that Iran was separated off from the world. Most Americans don’t go there—I’m not sure who does go there. And of course, I hadn’t really believed that it would work.

But as soon as the bracelet tightens, I know what will happen. It all comes back to me as if it’s a distant memory—not my own, but more like a scene that’s been waiting for me to step into it…
